Dōjō
Art-Ki Academy's Dōjō, the "Taikenkan", is a location surrounded by nature within the San Vincenzo Monastery complex in Bassano Romano. A quiet and welcoming place, it perfectly suits the practice of Sword (Iaidō) and Bow (Kyūdō).
The practitioners are responsible for taking care of the dojo. Before and after class they keep the space neat and tidy, just as the mind of the swordsman and archer should be.
Inside the dojo a few mottos can be found: "Leave the ego with the Zori" and "Silentium," suggesting the attitude and state of mind to be followed within the place of practice.
A handwritten plaque shows in characters the name of the place: "Taikenkan" , literally "Place of a Thousand Eyes "and translated as "Place of Great Wisdom". The work was created by a Japanese Shodō teacher who is a friend of the Academy and the Headmaster.
